So many workplaces are like this.....
The blind - Leading the blind
Why?
Because the Leaders have been promoted because they are great at their jobs, but they have zero Leadership skills or experience...
So they continue to be great at their job and their role, but as Leaders they are inept and clumsy.... basically as far as Leadership goes they are blind.
They have very little people skills...
They don't know how to have difficult conversations, so they avoid them...
Boundaries and Standards are not communicated or enforced...
Values are at best roughly understood...
and the whole thing is a "shit fight"...
This then leads to resentment throughout the team due to frustration levels increasing...
Especially when "blind eyes" are turned at particularly times, which creates incongruency....
This can lead to a "them vs us" culture and just watch the gossip and toxicity grow there like a wild fire.
Ultimately, people start to look elsewhere to work...
Why wouldn't they, who would want to stay in a place like that.
The Leaders can't understand why or what is wrong and the whole thing just keeps repeating, until it becomes the normal....
and we bullshit ourselves, saying "that's just how it is in this industry"
No it is not.... It is because you are promoting great people, the best people, but you are not training or equipping them....
These people will be great Leaders, if you give them the training and tools to do so.... just like you gave them the training and tools to become great at their job in the first place which is why they are being promoted.
Wake up people....
